Our artists are highly trained, extremely skillful and closely supervised, well-prepared to make a oil painting reproduction that you'll love. We don't skimp on materials or on talent, and we ship with care. Read on to find out more.
Our Painting Materials
We use cotton canvas, known for its smooth painting surface, stability and long life. Each canvas is hand-stretched and inspected, to ensure no flaws are found. Next, we apply two layers of primer, to ensure that the paint doesn't bleed into the canvas. Next, we apply a thick layer of gesso, which provides a base for our oil paint. After these steps are complete, we inspect the canvas once more, to ensure that it's ready to become your oil painting.
Unless you have a special request, we use oil paints from Windsor & Newton. This company was founded in 1832, and has a long history of working with artists and art houses of the highest quality. These paints are well-respected and beloved by artists all around the world. We find them to be extremely pliable and easy to work with, allowing us to match the color and tone of masterful oil paintings with ease.
Our Artists
Our artists are hired on a freelance basis. Each artist is required to submit samples of work and go through a stringent application process before work begins. Each oil painting takes about 7 days to complete.
Your artist will determine how large you'd like the painting to be, and how you want the painting to be delivered. Oil paintings that will be shipped flat will have a 2-inch unpainted surface surrounding the image. Traditional mounted canvases will have an image running to the edge of the canvas. A gallery-wrapped canvas, available upon request, contains an image that wraps all the way around the canvas and the stretcher strips.
Then, your artist sketches the outline of the master oil painting you've chosen directly onto the gesso surface. Large blocks of color are blocked in, and then proportions are checked against the original oil painting. Your artist will work back and forth, ensuring that your oil painting reproduction matches the original in proportion, perspective, tone, color and texture. This is painstaking work, and our artists proceed carefully. Often, one layer of paint needs to dry before another can be applied. Minor adjustments are required to get the tone just right. These are hand-painted works, so the oil paintings progress in a step-by-step fashion.
When your artist is satisfied that the work is complete and will meet your high expectations, the oil painting reproduction is inspected by our team of art critics. These experts will determine whether the painting matches the original, or whether adjustments must be made.
When our experts agree with your artist that the painting is complete, you'll be sent a digital image of your oil painting reproduction via email. You'll be asked to inspect the canvas artwork and make sure that it meets your expectations. If you need to make adjustments, just let us know and we will adjust your art reproduction per your specifications.
The entity holding the copyright for the original oil painting is paid a commission for each sale. We are committed to intellectual property rights.
Shipping and Care
If your painting is unmounted, we'll place a protective covering over the surface and roll up the painting. We'll cover the painting with a protective wrap, and place it in a sturdy tube for shipping. If you've requested a mounted painting, we will wrap the painting in a protective covering and ship it in a sturdy crate. If you're requested a fully-framed painting, we will send your completed oil painting reproduction to our skilled framing department, and will work with them to ensure the frame is perfectly assembled. We will then ship the framed artwork to you, wrapped in a protective covering and placed in a sturdy box. We will send you an email message with a tracking number as soon as the painting is shipped, so you can track your oil painting reproduction on its way to you. Your order will be shipped via FexEx, DSL or EMS.
When your oil painting reproduction arrives, remember to treat it with care. Do not touch the oil paint with your hands, as the oils on your fingers will mesh with the oil of the paint and cause discoloration. Never clean your oil painting with solvents. Instead, use a light feather duster to remove debris.
